“My criticism of myself is that I overreacted after 9/11 and the country overreacted.” “Unless we find a way to collaborate with people in that part of the world, to build a different kind of politics where people are allowed to grow up, realize their aspirations, live their lives so you did not have to live under the Saddams or the Ahmadinejads, this problem is going to keep coming back in one form or another.”
Since when did people CHOOSE to “live under the Saddams or the Ahmadinajads” or the Taliban?!?!
if the NY Times had been headquartered in lower Manhattan and not TImes Square, do you think Friedman would have a different opinion if he had been forced to write his column on his laptop in a crowded Starbucks rather than in a cushy office in the new NY Times building? According to Google Maps, the distance between Times Square and Ground Zero is 3.5 miles. You would think you needed to fly a plane to get from Times Square to Ground Zero given the disconnect the people at the NY Times feel for the people who died in the World Trade Center.
